Most people view teeth brushing as a very simple activity, but there is a lot of science behind it. For example, the time one spends on brushing their teeth affects how healthy their teeth is in the future. In this article, we have a look at some of the most important information one should know about teeth brushing. By learning these facts, you will be able to maintain healthy teeth for a very long time. One of the common questions that is asked is whether one should brush their teeth before or after breakfast. It’s normal to think that it is better to brush your teeth after a meal since your teeth is already dirty anyways. However, dentists don’t recommend this kind of thinking. Most will recommend that one should clean their teeth before a meal. There are two good reasons for this. First, the layer of protection that is applied to your teeth helps you reduce the damage caused by the sugars that are commonly found in breakfast meals. Second, you want to get rid of all the nasty bacteria and germs that have formed in your mouth overnight. The damage those germs can do will amplify if you don’t treat them before a breakfast meal. So what do you do after a breakfast meal? You can still brush your teeth but in a more gentle manner. You should also rinse your mouth with antiseptic mouthwash in order to get rid of any excess odor from your mouth. Another important thing to know is the type of toothbrush you use. This really depends on your teeth condition. Most people think that is is important to use hard-bristled toothbrush because they are going to do a better job of scraping all the stains off your teeth surface. This isn’t necessarily the case. Soft-bristled toothbrush could be better suited for some because they do a better job of cleaning gaps between the teeth. Therefore, if you are affected by conditions such as impacted wisdom teeth, it would be better for you to use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Last but not least, you should learn the proper techniques of brushing your teeth. Regardless of what condition your teeth are in, it is important to spend several minutes brushing and flossing your teeth. Most dentists recommend an average time of two minutes. If you spend less than a minute, you aren’t giving sufficient time for the toothpaste to do its job. What’s the point of applying toothpaste on your teeth if you aren’t giving the chemicals enough time to react with the stains that have accumulated on the teeth surface? By heeding these teeth brushing rules, you stand a better chance of maintaining healthy teeth. You also reduce the chances of contracting gum diseases which can be extremely painful. For example, if you are affected by periodontal gum disease, you will have a lot of difficult trying to eat or talk. You wouldn’t want that to happen to you. Start taking care of your teeth properly now to avoid having problems in the future. Last but not least, teeth whitening will only work if you put in the effort.
